So I decided to change the date of that last post to 2009_dec_31.

Hi all. This final post is to say thank you to everyone who has visited and enjoyed my humble JeansMusicBlog.

The blog was much fun for me, accent on was. But as I stated before (for over a year...) the fun was going down. So many visitors a day (400 at the moment....), so many downloads and so little comments......
As much as I enjoyed re-arranging the looks of my Blog, the writing about music and sharing a very small part of my collection, I simply don't like the take and leave thing. Some responded with a comment : appreciated. Some anonymous, but why not with Frank or Ann ? To the majority even hitting the button below every post (added 2008_may or so) to 'rate' it seems to be too much of an effort...
Compare it to the time a complete article and upload takes to make. Very often about two hours... In 900 days I made 730 articles....
In my opinion in return a Blogger has to be fed with, at least, comments... : participation is necessary.
I better use my time to people (ladies...) who appreciate me a little bit more...

I started my blog to have fun, not to be just a free mp3 corner... It gives a bad taste in my mouth how things turned out.
You cannot buy official copies of most of my over 700 posts. My blog didn't wanted to take from the artists (or recording company for that matter !), but tried to keep them alive in the public eye.

In the header of my Blog I wrote will my blog survive 2 years ? To be true, I first wrote just one year.... Well it did, to my own surprise. But in a better Blogging world, it could have go on for a very long time.

I want to thank the nice people who supported my blog by giving comments or additional info or suggestions/requests. In the open or in private by mail..

My blog is comment moderated. It means I have to approve every comment.
So I opened a blog called JeansMusicBlog_comments which is not moderated. Everyone can say whatever you like over there.
I suppose in time I also wanna tell you over there what my (blogging) plans for the future will be like the unfinished bussines... Cruisin serie for example.

I bought this album somewhere in the seventies. On the backsleeve is written 'is this from the famous lost million dollar quartet sessions ?', so in this case Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley. Only later on the 'official million dollar quartet recordings' were released. Decide for yourself.

Clever old man, could be me....

An elderly man in Florida had owned a large farm for several years. He had a large pond in the back, fixed up nice; picnic tables horseshoe courts, some apple and peach trees.
The pond was properly shaped and fixed up for swimming when it was built.

One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn't been there for a while, and look it over.
He grabbed a five gallon bucket to bring back some fruit. As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee.
As he came closer he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping in his pond. He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end.
One of the women shouted to him, "We're not coming out until you leave!"

The old man frowned, "I didn't come down here to watch you ladies swim naked or make you get out of the pond." Holding the bucket up he said, "I'm here to feed the alligator."

Exactly a year ago, well 2007_dec_29, I did write :
A 100.000 visitors/clicks since I installed this counter on 2006_june_19.
So there were even more, after all I started my Blog 2006_april_01.....
I think it's also time to reconsider the future of my humble Blog.........

I reconsidered.... I postponed the Lucky Luke posting several times...
Every posting takes about two hours to make, including the music file. In total I made over 700 articles for you. In last year alone almost 150.000 visitors. A high number of downloads. A very low number of comments, mostly even by the same respondents...
It is soooo obvious.....

In the header of my Blog I wrote 2 1/2 yrs ago : Will it survive two years ?
I wanted to learn about the internet. I wanted to learn about Blogging. I changed a lot of the original chosen template of this Blog. Testing/developing my brain.
I reached my goal to get at least a few dedicated regular visitors in two years. A few ? As of today over 225.000 visitors came to my humble blog.
The number of visitors increases but my personal fun decreases.....
I wanted to stop 2006_december. I expressed my concerns about my Blog's future. I postponed the Lucky Luke article since 2007_december several times.
I suppose 99.90% of you (....downloaders...) don't 'run' a blog.
I'm thinking why am I writing this ? Stupid me. I seem to have a wrong kind of expectation of mankind/visitors like you.
I just changed the dates of the dec_31 articles to dec_15 or so....
Only six weeks to go ?

Heeee, a new Blog : JeansMusicBlog - no moderated comments..... just in case....

No change in the attitude of my visitors... You also didn't learn from todays 'credit crisis'... It's just greedy... Take what you can get dispite possible consequencies...
On the stockmarket I was carefull so my portfolio even made a profit last year...
On the music level I bought some nice oldies who will also make a financial profit but more important are worth every dime, musically speaking....
I suppose you, my visitors, wanted me to keep them for myself.

Nothing lasts forever. At a certain moment all good things come to an end...

Laser radio, the internet station with the motto past, present and future, will not air live radio shows anymore in the (near ?) future. Besides other nice programs we will miss every first saturday of the month the great rock'n'roll show by Gudo Leuvens and the one and only Popcorn show by Theo Dumoulin .......

I announced for a long time my Blog quitting if there wasn't going to be a significant upgrade in comments by different people compared to the number of visitors and more important compared to the number of music downloads.

Of course I am not the leader of the 'popcorn' pack. Far from that. I still consider myself a rookie. A lot of others know so much more about this (Belgium originated) musical genre. They also have a far bigger collection, far better in style quality and a more costly ... They could tell (...) so much.....

One of the commenters wrote about the British blues scene when he still lived in the UK, so here's some British blues as part of my unfinished bussiness....

After Eric Clapton left the Bluesbreakers to form Cream, Peter Green played guitar on the following record and pretty much shocked everyone by being every bit as good as Clapton (maybe even better) ! With Aynsley Dunbar on drums and John McVie on bass, aided at times by a terrific horn section, with John Mayall on guitar, harmonica, organ and piano, this group turned out one of the best of the British electric blues albums.
Later on Peter Green left the Bluesbrakers to start Fleetwood Mac where John McVie joined him.

When I was 15 I made my debut in the first team of my soccer club. For several years I was topscorer of the whole region (about two goals a match..., not bad). Was asked to join a professional club. Never did. Always said I had to thank my fellow players, my friends at the time, and meant that fully. (Social) Fun was more important than the money. Never regretted my decision.

One of them became a judge and had to say justice this year in a dispute I had with the government.. Lol ! He had to say justice in the past about issues concerning Gilette razors, Heineken beer and so on. About millions of dollars/euros. And now he had to decide about 150 square meters property...... Lol, a double lol. He didn't decide in my favor (I still think because of the given poor evidence by my lawyer...), but that's ok with me. Always behave sportslike, accepted it. Keep bussiness and private apart. Memory or old friendship must not suffer by such a thing.
In them sixties, when I also studied at the university (I'll be ahead of you : I got my degree and in a minimal time), we never listened to the usual pop or flower power stuff but always to psychedelic and blues music like this.

New visitors will mostly come to my humble Blog by a Google search.
I suggest to ya not just check the item you were looking for but go through my whole Blog. I'm certain you will find other interesting items for ya.
Take your time to do so but start the archives at the beginning (2006_april). Most musical links (98%) are correct at this day of writing 2008_01_01.

You can also use the labels underneath an article which I added 2008_march_01.
Of course it depends on the time of day but you can also check nice examples of my Blog articles on my daily most popular pages.
Another way is to check on the left bar the entries of my 10 last visitors.
In some cases you probably get a html page of just the article plus the comments. You have to go the the comment section itself to be able to copy a link !!

NEW YORK -- A family friend says Eartha Kitt, a sultry singer, dancer and actress who rose from South Carolina cotton fields to become an international symbol of elegance and sensuality, has died. She was 81.
Andrew Freedman says Kitt died Thursday of colon cancer and was recently treated at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York.
Kitt, a self-proclaimed "sex kitten" famous for her catlike purr, was one of America's most versatile performers, winning two Emmys and getting a third nomination. She also was nominated for two Tony Awards and a Grammy.

Eartha Kitt was born 1927_01_27, so today she will be celebrating her 80th birthday.
She's one of those special singers of the 50's and early 60's I like.
Look at Eartha's homepage but also at Wikepedia you can find a lot of info and more links.

I'll never forget her 'unique style' (and appearances) as one can hear in songs like My Heart Belongs To Daddy, Just An Old Fashioned Girl and Uskudar'a.

She's still active in the entertainment bussines.
From October to early December 2006, Eartha Kitt co-starred in the Off-Broadway musical Mimi Le Duck. She has a role in the movie "Somebody Like You", due out in 2007, and is voicing the character of Fossa in the animated movie "Madagascar 2", due out in 2008.
So I wonder if she has enough time for her grandchildren.
I hope so : (grand)children are the niciest gift !!

I bought this CD a few years ago second hand for only Euro 1.5. A few tracks skipped a little bit but I think I repaired them nicely.

I like that.
I don't like the provider of this free widget (Outbrain) without any notice (well maybe to registered users which I was not...) suddenly added more internal and external links 'you might like'.
They are related to what I wrote, so not at all articles. At first glance it seems not commercial and maybe interesting but still...
So I consider to change or even remove this option.

Dismantling of Fortis

Dismantling of Fortis has been suspended

Earlier this day, the CBFA suspended the trade of Fortis shares on the Brussels stock exchange in the awaiting of the verdict which has been announced this evening. In contrast to the verdict made by the court of law nearly a month ago, the court of appeal declared the sale/takeover in which parts of the Fortis Holding will be sold to BNP Paribas and the Dutch government, must be suspended.

The verdict is mainly due to Mischael Modrikamen, a lawyer, who represents 2,000 displeased shareholders. He, and his 2,000 shareholders, share the opinion that the decision made by the board of directors was illegal and must be prevented. In order to solve this problem, the judge has appointed 5 experts. It’s their job to examine the correctness of the sale/takeover and finally give an advice so the judge can make his final verdict.

Last year I did post some Christmas albums with, in my personal opinion, nice oldies. I didn't plan posting any this year.... As said last month I intend to close my Blog 2008_dec_31 and I still have some unfinished requests/promises to deal with.

But a simple Google search will provide you enough interesting sites. In the left collumn I placed last week a new (Captaincrawl) Search feature for Music Blogs. I promise ya it's worth to try it.

One of my first articles on my Blog was about a quite unique LP For Everly yours.
I found out internet and blogging is a nice thing. I'm also 'present' on other sites. One meets people, although not physically. My son plays poker on the internet for small amounts of money, just for fun. Poker is about bluffing... It's not ment for me. I like to be sure/certain. No gambling. Mailed with a professional poker player (well, she says she is). I am a kind of big brother also and I learned yesterday she's, like me, a fan of the Everly Brothers.....

Quite a while ago I told ya about the famous Midnight special sessions by Harry Belafonte and Bob Dylan. I told ya also about Bob Dylan's first ever official recording with Carolyn Hester. Last week I got a comment over there.

After performing at the Cafe Wha? on his first night in town, Bob continues to play in Village coffeehouses using the name Bob Dylan. Before long he receives his first paid gig at NYU's Student Center, then as the support act for John Lee Hooker at Gerde's Folk City. He performs at Carnegie Hall to a sparse audience of 53 people, mostly friends. He plays harmonica on Harry Belafonte's album Midnight Special. While playing harmonica at a session for Carolyn Hester at Columbia Records, Dylan impresses producer John Hammond, who signs him to a five-year contract. His debut recording, entitled Bob Dylan, contains two original songs and an assortment of blues and traditional covers.

My blog is 'hosted' at Google's Blogspot. It's a blog about memories. I write/wrote about (mostly) oldies music. Big hits info will not be found here.
Visitors came to me by searching for artists like Elvis Presley, Emmylou Harris, Everly Brothers, Paul Anka, Jacques Brel, Rolling Stones, Beatles (in that order...), Fairport Convention, Little Richard, Sam the Sahm, Sam Cooke, Delaney and Bonnie, Connie Francis, Adamo, Roy Orbison and so many others.
Brothers and sisters also score quite well.
Popcorn is untill now, of course, the major music genre. Next month Christmas will be one of the major entries again.
This all means I seem to have something they are interested in and they hope to find rar-files of (live) albums which they can download.

First mail from US to Europe 20 years ago

Today, 20 years ago this very moment, the first not militairy mail was sent from the US to Europe. It was recieved by Piet Beertema at the 'Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI)' (Centre of mathematics) in Amsterdam. Europe was connected to the US internet.
The CWI in Amsterdam plays even today a major role in the internet. It's Europe's major 'backbone'.
How internet has changed our lives in those 20 years...

Only six weeks to go ?

In the header of my Blog I wrote 2 1/2 yrs ago : Will it survive two years ?
I wanted to learn about the internet. I wanted to learn about Blogging. I changed a lot of the original chosen template of this Blog. Testing/developing my brain.
I reached my goal to get at least a few dedicated regular visitors in two years. A few ? As of today over 225.000 visitors came to my humble blog.
The number of visitors increases but my personal fun decreases.....
I wanted to stop 2006_december. I expressed my concerns about my Blog's future. I postponed the Lucky Luke article since 2007_december several times.
I suppose 99.90% of you (....downloaders...) don't 'run' a blog.
I'm thinking why am I writing this ? Stupid me. I seem to have a wrong kind of expectation of mankind/visitors like you.
I just changed the dates of the dec_31 articles to dec_15 or so....

Rob Hoeke ah Boogie Woogie Quartet

The last days I had some boogie woogie on my Blog. I must admit I had an 'hidden agenda'... Today's article reveals what it's all about.

Rob Hoeke, born in January 1939, was in the sixties and seventees the most well known boogie woogie piano player in the Netherlands. He lost a few fingers in a car accident but managed to keep on playing his favorite music. Rob Hoeke passed away november 1999 in Krommenie due to cancer.
BinkySpoons (one of those UK soccer hooligans sometimes coming to Europe) will like the above picture : Rob with a cigaret and a Heineken beer..

On another Blog I found the following text and Youtube video's (...I edited it...).
Rob Hoeke founded his first Boogie Woogie Quartet during the mid 1950s featuring himself at the piano, Wim Bitters on guitar, Kees Kuypers bas and his brother Paul Hoeke on drums. They became known due to the fact that they won prices at the Loosdrecht Jazz Concours early 1960s. Thanks to this success they were allowed to make a record, titled Boogie Hoogie for the Philips label. I found a great film fragment from a Polygoon film journal, as played in the cinemas, about the Blues- and boogie festival for amateur piano players in Bergen, in the north western part of The Netherlands, probably somewhere in the 1970s. The Dutch speaking visitors of this blog will understand the commend of the announcer; others should know that the film fragment shows the winner of the contest, Gé van der Pol. The members of the jury were the three major boogie woogie piano players of the Netherlands, Rob Hoeke, Jaap Dekker and Rob Agerbeek. The piano player who sings is Rudy van Ingen and the woman is mrs Bluys. The final shot is the winner Gé van der Pol playing a boogie together with the three members of the jury (double quatre-main for the connesseurs....).

On the right : Boogie Train (Dutch Rob Hoeke, Jaap Dekker, Rob Agerbeek and the Metropole Orchestra) - Boogie on the move. Rob Hoeke is the guy on the left with the moustache and red blouse.
Moustache ?? All pianoplayers wear a moustache ! Hey moustache BinkySpoons..!!

I have 3-4 LP's of the guy including today's offer. It's a reissue in the Philips serie Favorieten Parade. The LP contains 12 tracks (mostly Rob's own compositions) with titles as Astrid's Blues, Jungle Boogie, Schoolday Boogie and Breakdown Boogie.
Mid 60's a house-organ, a Philips invention called the Philicorda, came on the market. Rob Hoeke had a contract with the Philips Grammophone company and so he was asked to promote this new organ. Half of the tracks are pure piano playing, the other half is organ playing.
I added some Philips Philicorda GM 754 series soundsamples (not on the LP itself).

Billy Vaughn was one of the most popular orchestra leaders and pop music arrangers of the '50s and early '60s. In fact, he had more pop hits than any other orchestra leader during the rock & roll era. Billy Vaughn was also the musical director for many of the hitmakers on Dot Records, including Pat Boone, the Fontane Sisters, and Gale Storm. As a pop music arranger, his most distinctive feature was his clean, nonoffensive mainstream adaptations of rock & roll and R&B hits. Vaughn was also a recording artist, and he cut a number of albums of easy listening, instrumental music that were very popular throughout the '60s.

Cruisin 1970 Kris Erik Stevens WLS, Chicago

Number nine in my/the small serie of Cruising records. You can get more info about this serie at the great Cruisin' blog.

They were talking about weightier things, the Temptations were, riots and the environment and Vietnam and so forth, but their "Ball of Confusion" didn't just describe the world in 1970. It was also a pretty good metaphor for the state of the music industry and top 40 radio at the time.
It would have been simple if every 14-year-old had heard "Whole Lotta Love" in 1969, decided that top 40 radio as they'd known it was basically irrelevant, and made a beeline for the FM rock side. But that didn't happen - for one thing, most kids had to hear "Whole Lotta Love" on AM because there wasn't an FM rocker in their market yet. Besides, transitions take time. Remember that Doris Day was still having top 10 hits even after Elvis went into the Army.
That's why top 40 spent the next five years looking over its shoulder at rock radio but not, until the end, looking up at its rival. And that's why, during that time, almost anything went.
In the early 70's, you could say that top 40 tried to become FM rock radio and you'd be right. Listen to a tape of nights on KHJ, L.A.'s original "Boss Radio," in the early 70's and you'll hear a ton of album cuts - things that wouldn't even make the cut at classic rock radio today. You could say that top 40 radio went more bubblegum than ever in 1970 and, given the Osmonds, The Partridge Family, the Poppy Family, Bobby Sherman, Tony Orlando & Dawn, The Archies, and the Brotherhood of Man/White Plains/Edison Lighthouse/Pipkins (who were actually one British studio group), you'd be right, too.

Miriam Zenzi Makeba was born in Johannesburg 1932_march_04. Her mother was a Swazi sangoma and her father, who died when she was six, was a Xhosa. In keeping with tradition, her full name contains the first names of her male ancestors followed by a one- or two-word description of their character. We older people remember the days of hope for the future in 1960 with John F Kennedy. Now I am hoping the same way for your and my children.
Let's hope and pray there will be no crazy/insane/stupid person who makes an end to todays dream like we had beginning sixties !

Internet connection problem

I'm an oldfashioned guy in many ways. I like the old way of behaviour. Be a gentleman, be polite. Open the door for the lady. Yeah, I know what's written in those etiquette books....
On the other hand I wanted to go along with the modern times and so I am working with (hobby) computers since 1980. The great Commodore 64 for example. How much fun it was to burn new (erasable) chips to replace the original Kernal. Programmed some DBase prgs. And with friends a word processor ; it even could 'justify' and wrap words at the end of a line but we never managed to include pictures.... I also made a personal version of Monopoly which found it's way into the hobby circuit. I stopped programming while making a car crash game. Suddenly I thought/understood I was inventing the wheel again...

Got in 1986 a job offered as senior-director medical advisor at an insurance company. Within a day I had cracked their Symphony (a kinda 'Lotus' prg with spreadsheet, word processor and DBase). Fun to watch the IT guys' faces. Liked to program again in Microsoft DOS.
Didn't wanted to 'upgrade' to Microsoft Windows. Thought I couldn't get 'control' on it and I like (and am used...) to be in control... But had to.
Finally entered the internet world over 2 1/2 years ago. I really must say, it is very interesting and fun. So much to discover like for instance how a search machine like Google works....
Only problem with internet is sometimes I can't control things. My provider had since friday evening internal technical problems (not the first time btw) so I couldn't access internet for about 50 hrs. Felt handicapped.
I suppose a lot were awaiting for my today's Popcorn posting.... Well, I will beginning next week.

Peter Green was born Peter Allen Greenbaum, 29 October 1946, in Bethnal Green, London. He's a British blues-rock guitarist and founder of Fleetwood Mac.
A figurehead in the British blues movement, Green inspired BB King to say, "He has the sweetest tone I ever heard; he was the only one who gave me the cold sweats." Green's playing was marked with a distinctive vibrato and economy of style. Though he played other guitars, he is best known for deriving a unique tone from his 1959 Gibson Les Paul, a result of the guitar's neck pickup connections being reversed to produce an 'out of phase' sound.
He played in John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, the 'original' Fleetwood Mac and lately Peter Green's Splinter Group.

Special note to track #04. I always felt Robert Johnson's Hellhound on my trail the best blues song of this LP. Here's also Jeremy Spencer's own 'rendition' of this song as You're so evil..... Note also Jeremy saying at the end (not on the offical album !) 'I forgot the lyrics'. It should have been obvious as Jeremy delivers the lyrics 'If today was Christmas day and tomorrow was Christmas eve'.... Nobody seems to have spotted the error at the time or simply kept quiet... By the way, Hellhound was take 1 and Evil take 2, but I reversed it in my editing....
Extra bonus track #13 is of unknown date but my personal guess is it was recorded the same date as My heart beat like a hammer (1967_december_11).

Today 1943 Conny Froboess was born

Cornelia Froboess was born October 28, 1943, so today she celebrates her 65th birthday !!
She's a German actress and a teen idol of the 1950s and early '60s.
During that time, Froboess appeared in many musical films, especially after the rock 'n' roll wave had hit Germany. In those comedy films, she would often portray the typical Berliner Göre (girl from Berlin) who craves for independence from her all-too-strict parents.
As Conny Froboess, she had her first hit in 1951, aged eight, with a song written by her father. Pack die Badehose ein (Pack Your Swimsuit) is a cheery tune about a group of children going swimming on a hot summer's day at the Wannsee. The title of the song has become a set phrase and synonym for going swimming easily recognized even by speakers of German who have never heard of the song.
In 1962 Froboess finished in sixth place at the Eurovision Song Contest, where she sang Zwei kleine Italiener (Two Little Italians) for Germany.
Later Froboess became a theatre and movie actress.

Bob Dylan Theme time radio #78 - Night

Yesterday the third of Bob Dylan's Theme Time radio shows from the Abernathy Building studio B in this third year was aired.
Dylan’s radio series proved a delight. He used his slot to recreate exactly the kind of 1950s radio that was so formative and so much a musical lifeline for the Bobby Zimmerman who was listening to it in Hibbing, Minnesota - a radio era he has expressed his fondness for in more recent years.

Tom Palaima, an Austin Texas professor, sums up Dylan’s intent and achievement here with what he calls Dylan’s ‘warm evocations of old-timey radio’:
‘In each hour, Dylan covers a chosen theme: mothers, fathers, baseball, coffee, weddings, divorce, showing how the common musical traditions of the United States shaped our lives in song and lyric. Dylan's succinct commentary makes the music shine. He is witty, gently humorous, erudite and always reverent about the music he is playing.
We hear the sounds of big band, country swing, rockabilly, blues, rhythm and blues, rock 'n' roll, Nashville, Motown, Sun Records, Frank Sinatra, the Ink Spots, Bob Wills and Kitty Wells. Interspersed, he gives plainly spoken information about the artists, where they came from, where they went, who influenced them and what influence they had. He recites lyrics, painting pictures of our lives in sound.
Dylan doesn't peddle himself or anything else. No product placement here. Period commercials are spliced in to set the mood. A listener asks on Theme Time Coffee: "Why do you play so much old music? Do you have something against new music?" Dylan replies, "I like new music. But there's more old music than new music."
…Theme Time Radio is hip, but not Tarantino's jaded hip, or William Shatner's self-mocking hip. Dylan respects the music we and he loved. He respects the artists who created it, even lived it.
These shows are so humane, so out of time… Dylan is still protesting. He is protesting our fast-paced, dehumanized present by calling us to gather round the hearth of old-time radio and remember life as it used to be and could be again, if we stop and really listen to it, and to each other.’
