Soccer world championship
In my country there's a saying 'Soccer is a game where 22 players run accross the field and try to score a goal but whatever happens in the end Germany wins'.
It's just a saying. Reality is different. The whole world will watch it curious who will win in the end.
From very reliable sources I have the information that the country who has this flag wil be the world champion soccer for the next 4 years.

"The whole world will watch....."
Perhaps in the rest of the world, but not North America.
We play real football here, not the sissy game called soccer.

"real football"? yeah sure. Perhaps you can explain why billions of people are watching the world cup and noone outside of the USA cares for American football?
by the way, as far as i know, the quote about football and the germans is from Gary Lineker.

Anonymous,
for soccer one needs skills, for US football strength ...
As Siem says 'American football'. That's just a local game (we're in Holland are the world champion in 'korfbal'). :-) :-)
Siem, I have to give you credits. Indeed it was a Gary Lineker saying as I heard just now.
And how true it is was just proven. The Germans did win in the last minute from the Polands.
Great goalkeeper they had, a pity for him.
I suppose we all agree the Germans deserved to win (whether we like it or not).
BTW when I see the BBC soccer prg with Gary Lineker (he's a good presentator) who's the guy next to him (dark hair and with an accent) ?
I think he's also a former player. What team did he play ?
Untill now I'm enjoying myself with the matches (as far as I can watch of course). I'm not disappointed.

Every time there's a soccer tournament (be it European or World cup) the entire country of the Netherlands goes crazy. Every town becomes orange (to be considered as the national colour). You see flags, people dress up in that colour, they even stay home from work and declare themselves sick for a day... People go out of their minds, and every dutchman KNOWS for a fact that they will win the cup (whatever cups it may be) without even having played a single match.
If that isn't overestimating yourself, I don't know.
I've seen it happen for quiet some years now and I still can't believe my eyes.
And what I really don't like is the blowfish-attitudde. As soon as "Germany" is mentioned all Dutch blow themselves up and start nagging and boasting. Some people even start talking about the war, and the World Cup Final they lost in '88. And how unfair that was (the final that is)
What about "normen" and "waarden"?
What about a positive attitude?

..Orange.. comes from the royal family : The house of Orange.
Any championship (football/skating) is a kind of reason te make party's. So just fun and no harm.
..win the cup.. Isn't that with all country's involved ? Everyone likes to be the best/winner.
..Germany.. It's more the way around these days. In general Dutch like Germans more and more but polls telling the Germans like the Dutch less.
..lost in '88.. We lost the World cup final in 78 and won the Europian chamionship in 88.
..positive attitude.. Didn't the fans behave themselves really good in Germany ? Party's, drinking, singing but no fights !!
By the way this goes for all country's. It's not over yet (4 teams) but I think it was a great tournament and very good organised !
