Announcement

Three/four years have gone by since I stopped posting on my humble blog.
Funny there are about 200 people daily visiting it. Funny and also rewarding to me.
Sadly I have to announce from now on I will not re-upload links that are not valid anymore.
I expect within 6 months at the most my Blog will only be of textual entertainment.

All the best to my readers !
Have fun in your real life, not in the internet life.......

Popcorn Vrasene gone forever

Last year I closed my blog never te re-open it again.
The content is mostly popcorn-oldies music.
I just read in the Beveren newspaper this night dancing The Popcorn in Vrasene burned down. The place where it all began, the temple of the Popcorn. A true lost. Now all we have left are our memories. And they will fade away because of the lack of youngsters to fill in our places and our increasing demention...
In august last year I visited the Popcorn for the last time. In many ways/views to me a memorable day !! After that we had a great (very hot...) party elsewhere in Beveren. Looking backwards to me the day is never to be forgotten.

Here are some pictures, old and sadly the latest ones. Share them but please keep in mind, although the dancing is gone now, our memory to those great days will linger on !

If you have any remembrance or just wanna give a comment feel free to do so. Let's make this comment section a kind of condolance book.

JeanDupree

Let's remember the Popcorn like in the old days :

This was just an april fools joke.....

But in 2011 the place was really torned down to build new houses.
Some bricks were promised to me but promises don't mean much nowadays... :-(((

Blog closed but.....

Well, I closed my blog 2009_jan_01 but still have some 'unfinished bussines'.
So I decided to change the date of that last post to 2009_dec_31.
Just below it you can read my 2009's postings.

Farewell to my friends and supporters

Hi all. This final post is to say thank you to everyone who has visited and enjoyed my humble JeansMusicBlog.

The blog was much fun for me, accent on was. But as I stated before (for over a year...) the fun was going down. So many visitors a day (400 at the moment....), so many downloads and so little comments......
As much as I enjoyed re-arranging the looks of my Blog, the writing about music and sharing a very small part of my collection, I simply don't like the take and leave thing. Some responded with a comment : appreciated. Some anonymous, but why not with Frank or Ann ? To the majority even hitting the button below every post (added 2008_may or so) to 'rate' it seems to be too much of an effort...
Compare it to the time a complete article and upload takes to make. Very often about two hours... In 900 days I made 730 articles....
In my opinion in return a Blogger has to be fed with, at least, comments... : participation is necessary.
I better use my time to people (ladies...) who appreciate me a little bit more...

I started my blog to have fun, not to be just a free mp3 corner... It gives a bad taste in my mouth how things turned out.
You cannot buy official copies of most of my over 700 posts. My blog didn't wanted to take from the artists (or recording company for that matter !), but tried to keep them alive in the public eye.

In the header of my Blog I wrote will my blog survive 2 years ? To be true, I first wrote just one year.... Well it did, to my own surprise. But in a better Blogging world, it could have go on for a very long time.

I want to thank the nice people who supported my blog by giving comments or additional info or suggestions/requests. In the open or in private by mail..

My blog is comment moderated. It means I have to approve every comment.
So I opened a blog called JeansMusicBlog_comments which is not moderated. Everyone can say whatever you like over there.
I suppose in time I also wanna tell you over there what my (blogging) plans for the future will be like the unfinished bussines... Cruisin serie for example.

Take care my friends and may God bless each and every one of you on your life's journey.

Happy birthday my son

Fatherly advice for my son who celebrates his 32th birthday.

Live your life to the fullest,
Work like you don't need the money,
Love like you've never been hurt,
Dance like no-one is watching,
Screw like it's being filmed,
And drink like a true Irishman.

Susan Boyle - Britains Got Talent 2009

'Never judge a book by looking at its cover!'
Susan Boyle, 47, from West Lothian is living proof of this quote as she stunned the judges (including Simon Cowell) yesterday evening on Britain's Got Talent singing 'I Dream A Dream' from Les Miserables, earning herself a standing ovation from the crowd and inspired the ITV show to a peak audience of 11.8million viewers.
Note the sceptical girl at 1.48. Will she think otherwise now ?

Susan Boyle Fansite : Before her performance, Miss Boyle told Geordie hosts Ant and Dec that she's "never had a boyfriend" and she has "never been kissed before". Her previous singing experience was limited to the church choir and karaoke. The audience and judges laughed as she said she would like to be as successfull as Elaine Paige.

Susan soon turned that laughter into tears, Piers Morgan described her as stunning and "the biggest surprise in three years on the show" while Simon Cowell said she can go back home and with her head held high.

Will this unemployed 47 year old lady make her dream come true and have a great musical career in the years to come ??

Wisdom Of A Retiree

Since I sold my bussines almost two years ago I've often been asked, 'What do you old folks do now that you're retired?
Well .. I'm fortunate to have also a chemical engineering background, and one of the things I enjoy most is turning beer, wine, Scotch and margaritas into urine.

Chris Barber's Jazz Band - Ice Cream

Chris Barber.... Dixieland music..... Look at the videos of this most famous tune of Chris Barber (originally released 1954) and understand how much fun this kind of music was in them fifties and (early) sixties !
In my personal opinion so much more interesting than todays music....
Left : Chris Barber's Jazz Band - Ice Cream 1972
Right : Played in the old formation 1994.

I scream, you scream,
everybody wants ice cream.
Rock, oh rock my baby roll.

I scream, you scream,
everybody wants ice cream.
Rock, oh rock my baby roll.

And has he Olá and Pepsi-Cola,
then everybody is drinking Coca-Cola.

I scream, you scream,
everybody wants ice cream.
Rock, oh rock my baby roll.

I bought this album somewhere in the seventies. On the backsleeve is written 'is this from the famous lost million dollar quartet sessions ?', so in this case Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley. Only later on the 'official million dollar quartet recordings' were released. Decide for yourself.

Clever old man, could be me....

An elderly man in Florida had owned a large farm for several years. He had a large pond in the back, fixed up nice; picnic tables horseshoe courts, some apple and peach trees.
The pond was properly shaped and fixed up for swimming when it was built.

One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn't been there for a while, and look it over.
He grabbed a five gallon bucket to bring back some fruit. As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee.
As he came closer he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping in his pond. He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end.
One of the women shouted to him, "We're not coming out until you leave!"

The old man frowned, "I didn't come down here to watch you ladies swim naked or make you get out of the pond." Holding the bucket up he said, "I'm here to feed the alligator."

Unfinished bussiness.....

There's still some unfinished bussiness like the Cruisin' series and some promises I made to requests I got.
Somehow I will come to that.

Somewhere today 250.000 visitors

Exactly a year ago, well 2007_dec_29, I did write :
A 100.000 visitors/clicks since I installed this counter on 2006_june_19.
So there were even more, after all I started my Blog 2006_april_01.....
I think it's also time to reconsider the future of my humble Blog.........
-
I reconsidered.... I postponed the Lucky Luke posting several times...
Every posting takes about two hours to make, including the music file. In total I made over 700 articles for you. In last year alone almost 150.000 visitors. A high number of downloads. A very low number of comments, mostly even by the same respondents...
It is soooo obvious.....
>>

Lemmie remind you of my 2008_nov_16 article...
In the header of my Blog I wrote 2 1/2 yrs ago : Will it survive two years ?
I wanted to learn about the internet. I wanted to learn about Blogging. I changed a lot of the original chosen template of this Blog. Testing/developing my brain.
I reached my goal to get at least a few dedicated regular visitors in two years. A few ? As of today over 225.000 visitors came to my humble blog.
The number of visitors increases but my personal fun decreases.....
I wanted to stop 2006_december. I expressed my concerns about my Blog's future. I postponed the Lucky Luke article since 2007_december several times.
I suppose 99.90% of you (....downloaders...) don't 'run' a blog.
I'm thinking why am I writing this ? Stupid me. I seem to have a wrong kind of expectation of mankind/visitors like you.
I just changed the dates of the dec_31 articles to dec_15 or so....
Only six weeks to go ?

Heeee, a new Blog :
JeansMusicBlog - no moderated comments..... just in case....
-
No change in the attitude of my visitors... You also didn't learn from todays 'credit crisis'... It's just greedy... Take what you can get dispite possible consequencies...
On the stockmarket I was carefull so my portfolio even made a profit last year...
On the music level I bought some nice oldies who will also make a financial profit but more important are worth every dime, musically speaking....
I suppose you, my visitors, wanted me to keep them for myself.

Leader of the popcorn pack and now he's gone

Nothing lasts forever. At a certain moment all good things come to an end...

Laser radio, the internet station with the motto past, present and future, will not air live radio shows anymore in the (near ?) future. Besides other nice programs we will miss every first saturday of the month the great rock'n'roll show by Gudo Leuvens and the one and only Popcorn show by Theo Dumoulin .......

I announced for a long time my Blog quitting if there wasn't going to be a significant upgrade in comments by different people compared to the number of visitors and more important compared to the number of music downloads.
Next week some statistics........

Shangri Las - Leader of the pack _best of
01-Remember (Walkin' In The Sand)
02-What Is Love
03-Give Him A Great Big Kiss
04-Out In The Streets
05-Give Us Your Blessings
06-Heaven Only Knows
07-What's A Girl Supposed To Do
08-The Dum Dum Ditty
09-Right Now And Not Later
10-I Can Never Go Home Anymore
11-Long Live Our Love
12-Sophisticated Boom Boom
13-He Cried
14-Paradise
15-Love You More Than Yesterday
16-The Sweet Sounds Of Summer
17-Take The Time
18-Footsteps On The Roof
19-Leader Of The Pack
20-Past, Present And Future

Laser radio ('past, present and future') live is gone.... ??
We will have to wait what their future will bring.

Leader of the 'Popcorn' pack and now he's gone.... ??
Of course I am not the leader of the 'popcorn' pack. Far from that. I still consider myself a rookie. A lot of others know so much more about this (Belgium originated) musical genre. They also have a far bigger collection, far better in style quality and a more costly ... They could tell (...) so much.....

Visit these 2 great Belgium Popcorn site's with a lot of background info and the weekly party calender : Popcornoldies.com and Popcornoldies.be !
But I think I have succeeded in promoting Popcorn for over more than 2 years to a more worldwide audience looking at the number of downloads of those articles....

Last month I've had an offer to post some articles about Popcorn history. We'll see.

I've written about 2 (new) Blogs concerning Popcorn also : The world of Binky Spoons and Rotterdamrebels. Ehhhh, have you ever visited the Oldies-research-center ? And yesterday a new star in the Popcorn sky can be seen at BoUmBoUm.
Folks, all I can say comment, comment over there !!!!

This last article and download isn't Popcorn but I thought, because of those last 2 songs, it's a nice ending. Past, present and future.......

Comment section is still there...

Personal disclaimer

Please first read the above 'existence reason' of my Blog.
I don't intend to just give some LP/CD/songs away. My personal goal goes further.
But if there is, in my personal opinion, a serious remark about one of my postings like Sonja Reuter did about Johnny & Hurricanes I 'can do something about it'.
Read my posting Johnny & Hurricanes on 2006_may_06 and the comments. I will honour her understandable request and so my Johnny & Hurricanes offer will not be uploaded again. Just fair policy I think in this anarcheus Blogging World.

Lucky Luke says 'next shots on JeansMusicBlog'

Possible articles in the near future.

None really scheduled.
As I explained ya end last year I wanna reconsider my Blog's future : CLOSE or go on.

Edit 2008_october_10
I changed the date of this posting from 2007_dec to 2008_march to 2008_june to 2008_september to 2008_december...

How long will I postpone this posting/article ?
Depends on the number and quality of the comments folks !

Edit 2008_december_26
As you will have noticed I didn't postpone this posting/article anymore.
Lately I didn't wrote much anymore, presented mainly just some music....
The end must be near....

John Mayall's hard road in 1967

One of the commenters wrote about the British blues scene when he still lived in the UK, so here's some British blues as part of my unfinished bussiness....

After Eric Clapton left the Bluesbreakers to form Cream, Peter Green played guitar on the following record and pretty much shocked everyone by being every bit as good as Clapton (maybe even better) ! With Aynsley Dunbar on drums and John McVie on bass, aided at times by a terrific horn section, with John Mayall on guitar, harmonica, organ and piano, this group turned out one of the best of the British electric blues albums.
Later on Peter Green left the Bluesbrakers to start Fleetwood Mac where John McVie joined him.

When I was 15 I made my debut in the first team of my soccer club. For several years I was topscorer of the whole region (about two goals a match..., not bad). Was asked to join a professional club. Never did. Always said I had to thank my fellow players, my friends at the time, and meant that fully. (Social) Fun was more important than the money. Never regretted my decision.
One of them became a judge and had to say justice this year in a dispute I had with the government.. Lol ! He had to say justice in the past about issues concerning Gilette razors, Heineken beer and so on. About millions of dollars/euros. And now he had to decide about 150 square meters property...... Lol, a double lol. He didn't decide in my favor (I still think because of the given poor evidence by my lawyer...), but that's ok with me. Always behave sportslike, accepted it. Keep bussiness and private apart. Memory or old friendship must not suffer by such a thing.
In them sixties, when I also studied at the university (I'll be ahead of you : I got my degree and in a minimal time), we never listened to the usual pop or flower power stuff but always to psychedelic and blues music like this.

Single songs 2008_december

From time to time there are suggestions or requests in the comments of my articles. Sometimes I honoured that in the past, but from 2008_july on (well, it will be a test) I will post them the last date of the current month.
Please note, my Blog isn't a request Blog. For that purpose sometimes other sites can be of help like Grumpy's Golden Oldies... But when I like a remark and if I can and have time I wanna be of some help.
Requests over here will not be posted or honoured ! Just specific comments about the songs are allowed and posted.

Songs will be available in the comments to download for just a very limited time !
If you just wanna listen click the play-button > on the left.
