Leader of the popcorn pack and now he's gone

Nothing lasts forever. At a certain moment all good things come to an end...

Laser radio, the internet station with the motto past, present and future, will not air live radio shows anymore in the (near ?) future. Besides other nice programs we will miss every first saturday of the month the great rock'n'roll show by Gudo Leuvens and the one and only Popcorn show by Theo Dumoulin .......

I announced for a long time my Blog quitting if there wasn't going to be a significant upgrade in comments by different people compared to the number of visitors and more important compared to the number of music downloads.
Next week some statistics........

Shangri Las - Leader of the pack _best of
01-Remember (Walkin' In The Sand)
02-What Is Love
03-Give Him A Great Big Kiss
04-Out In The Streets
05-Give Us Your Blessings
06-Heaven Only Knows
07-What's A Girl Supposed To Do
08-The Dum Dum Ditty
09-Right Now And Not Later
10-I Can Never Go Home Anymore
11-Long Live Our Love
12-Sophisticated Boom Boom
13-He Cried
14-Paradise
15-Love You More Than Yesterday
16-The Sweet Sounds Of Summer
17-Take The Time
18-Footsteps On The Roof
19-Leader Of The Pack
20-Past, Present And Future

Laser radio ('past, present and future') live is gone.... ??
We will have to wait what their future will bring.

Leader of the 'Popcorn' pack and now he's gone.... ??
Of course I am not the leader of the 'popcorn' pack. Far from that. I still consider myself a rookie. A lot of others know so much more about this (Belgium originated) musical genre. They also have a far bigger collection, far better in style quality and a more costly ... They could tell (...) so much.....

Visit these 2 great Belgium Popcorn site's with a lot of background info and the weekly party calender : Popcornoldies.com and Popcornoldies.be !
But I think I have succeeded in promoting Popcorn for over more than 2 years to a more worldwide audience looking at the number of downloads of those articles....

Last month I've had an offer to post some articles about Popcorn history. We'll see.

I've written about 2 (new) Blogs concerning Popcorn also : The world of Binky Spoons and Rotterdamrebels. Ehhhh, have you ever visited the Oldies-research-center ? And yesterday a new star in the Popcorn sky can be seen at BoUmBoUm.
Folks, all I can say comment, comment over there !!!!

This last article and download isn't Popcorn but I thought, because of those last 2 songs, it's a nice ending. Past, present and future.......

Comment section is still there...

Personal disclaimer

Please first read the above 'existence reason' of my Blog.
I don't intend to just give some LP/CD/songs away. My personal goal goes further.
But if there is, in my personal opinion, a serious remark about one of my postings like Sonja Reuter did about Johnny & Hurricanes I 'can do something about it'.
Read my posting Johnny & Hurricanes on 2006_may_06 and the comments. I will honour her understandable request and so my Johnny & Hurricanes offer will not be uploaded again. Just fair policy I think in this anarcheus Blogging World.

Lucky Luke says 'next shots on JeansMusicBlog'

Possible articles in the near future.

None really scheduled.
As I explained ya end last year I wanna reconsider my Blog's future : CLOSE or go on.

Edit 2008_october_10
I changed the date of this posting from 2007_dec to 2008_march to 2008_june to 2008_september to 2008_december...

How long will I postpone this posting/article ?
Depends on the number and quality of the comments folks !

As you will have noticed I didn't postpone this posting/article anymore.
Lately I didn't wrote much anymore, presented mainly just some music....

John Mayall's hard road in 1967

One of the commenters wrote about the British blues scene when he still lived in the UK, so here's some British blues as part of my unfinished bussiness....

After Eric Clapton left the Bluesbreakers to form Cream, Peter Green played guitar on the following record and pretty much shocked everyone by being every bit as good as Clapton (maybe even better) ! With Aynsley Dunbar on drums and John McVie on bass, aided at times by a terrific horn section, with John Mayall on guitar, harmonica, organ and piano, this group turned out one of the best of the British electric blues albums.
Later on Peter Green left the Bluesbrakers to start Fleetwood Mac where John McVie joined him.

When I was 15 I made my debut in the first team of my soccer club. For several years I was topscorer of the whole region (about two goals a match..., not bad). Was asked to join a professional club. Never did. Always said I had to thank my fellow players, my friends at the time, and meant that fully. (Social) Fun was more important than the money. Never regretted my decision.
One of them became a judge and had to say justice this year in a dispute I had with the government.. Lol ! He had to say justice in the past about issues concerning Gilette razors, Heineken beer and so on. About millions of dollars/euros. And now he had to decide about 150 square meters property...... Lol, a double lol. He didn't decide in my favor (I still think because of the given poor evidence by my lawyer...), but that's ok with me. Always behave sportslike, accepted it. Keep bussiness and private apart. Memory or old friendship must not suffer by such a thing.
In them sixties, when I also studied at the university (I'll be ahead of you : I got my degree and in a minimal time), we never listened to the usual pop or flower power stuff but always to psychedelic and blues music like this.

John Mayall & Bluesbreakers - A hard road _1967
01-A Hard Road
02-It's Over
03-You Don't Love Me
04-The Stumble
05-Another Kind Of Love
06-Hit The Highway
07-Leaping Christine
08-Dust My Blues
09-There's Always Work
10-The Same Way
11-The Super Natural
12-Top Of The Hill
13-Someday After A While
14-Living Alone

Where's that comment section ?

Single songs 2008_december

From time to time there are suggestions or requests in the comments of my articles. Sometimes I honoured that in the past, but from 2008_july on (well, it will be a test) I will post them the last date of the current month.
Please note, my Blog isn't a request Blog. For that purpose sometimes other sites can be of help like Grumpy's Golden Oldies... But when I like a remark and if I can and have time I wanna be of some help.
Requests over here will not be posted or honoured ! Just specific comments about the songs are allowed and posted.

Songs will be available in the comments to download for just a very limited time !
If you just wanna listen click the play-button > on the left.

My own choice... Johnny Thunder - Drink, drink (to the lady)

Advice to new visitors of my humble Blog

New visitors will mostly come to my humble Blog by a Google search.
I suggest to ya not just check the item you were looking for but go through my whole Blog. I'm certain you will find other interesting items for ya.
Take your time to do so but start the archives at the beginning (2006_april). Most musical links (98%) are correct at this day of writing 2008_01_01.

You can also use the labels underneath an article which I added 2008_march_01.
Of course it depends on the time of day but you can also check nice examples of my Blog articles on my daily most popular pages.
Another way is to check on the left bar the entries of my 10 last visitors.
In some cases you probably get a html page of just the article plus the comments. You have to go the the comment section itself to be able to copy a link !!

Eartha Kitt died 2008_12_25

NEW YORK -- A family friend says Eartha Kitt, a sultry singer, dancer and actress who rose from South Carolina cotton fields to become an international symbol of elegance and sensuality, has died. She was 81.
Andrew Freedman says Kitt died Thursday of colon cancer and was recently treated at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York.
Kitt, a self-proclaimed "sex kitten" famous for her catlike purr, was one of America's most versatile performers, winning two Emmys and getting a third nomination. She also was nominated for two Tony Awards and a Grammy.

A lot of info will be found on the internet the next days so I simply do a repost of my article 2007_01_27....

Eartha Kitt was born 1927_01_27, so today she will be celebrating her 80th birthday.
She's one of those special singers of the 50's and early 60's I like.
Look at Eartha's homepage but also at Wikepedia you can find a lot of info and more links.

I'll never forget her 'unique style' (and appearances) as one can hear in songs like My Heart Belongs To Daddy, Just An Old Fashioned Girl and Uskudar'a.

She's still active in the entertainment bussines.
From October to early December 2006, Eartha Kitt co-starred in the Off-Broadway musical Mimi Le Duck. She has a role in the movie "Somebody Like You", due out in 2007, and is voicing the character of Fossa in the animated movie "Madagascar 2", due out in 2008.
So I wonder if she has enough time for her grandchildren.
I hope so : (grand)children are the niciest gift !!

I bought this CD a few years ago second hand for only Euro 1.5. A few tracks skipped a little bit but I think I repaired them nicely.

Mahalia Jackson - Silent Night

Coming home from the night Church Christmas celebration.
The ultimate Christmas song and performance in my humble opinion...
The ultimate gospel song... Recorded in 1941... can you believe that ?

Shoutbox added 2008_july_23

Today, 2008_july_23, I added a Shoutbox on the left.
If you have anything to say to each other in general or about my Blog just type your message and hit 'return'. It's as easy as that. But please keep it friendly !!

Edit 2008_dec_15
I can't say there's a significant number of remarks in 6 months about my Bog or my articles are noticed. When I also compare that to the number of (unique) visitors and downloaded files.. Sad, sad.. Greedy, greedy..
This all also doesn't help to get a history/music discussion on my blog...
I suppose you, my dear visitors, are not interested in me going on with my Blog and want me to close/end my blog.

Derek & Dominos ft Eric Clapton in Concert '73

Unfinished bussiness...... A request by John D. I did say in the past I didn't take requests... but of course I did if you did take some time to 'communicate' with me.... A simple comment does the trick. The same goes for other Bloggers..... Just one comment can give you sooo much musical fun you are interested in.... Better participate instead of just being a leecher...

Derek & Dominos ft Eric Clapton - In Concert _1973
Recorded live at the Fillmore East, New York, New York in 1970.

LP1: 01. Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad? 02. Got to Get Better In A Little While 03. Let It Rain 04. Presence of the Lord
LP2: 01. Tell The Truth 02. Bottle Of Red Wine 03. Roll It Over 04. Blues Power 05. Have You Ever Loved a Woman

QUOTE. It probably shouldn't matter that the music on this album was made over two years ago (the set was recorded at gigs at the Fillmore East in October, 1970) but somehow there's a strange feel of time warp. Perspectively speaking, the Dominos had done their first public gig only about four months previously, a benefit in England. A few weeks later the Eric Clapton solo LP was released, the one recorded while Clapton was on tour with Delaney & Bonnie and Friends. The album had been completed except for final mixing, which was delayed for some time, and by its final release date much of Eric's style and approach had changed; still the LP was the first evidence that Clapton had any vocal ability beyond an occasional "Crossroads." 1, 2, 3.

Widget 'Be the first to rate'

Below every post you have the opportunity to give a rating to every article.
I like that.
I don't like the provider of this free widget (Outbrain) without any notice (well maybe to registered users which I was not...) suddenly added more internal and external links 'you might like'.
They are related to what I wrote, so not at all articles. At first glance it seems not commercial and maybe interesting but still...
So I consider to change or even remove this option.
What is your opinion ?

Ratings widget added 2008_may_13

Once a while a comment of just one simple line seems te be too much effort to 99% of the readers/downloaders. I think almost every Bogger complains about this. Just 'take' seems today's motto. My true feelings : it's a shame.
So today 2008_may_13 I added a ratings widget. This way I hope to get at least a little feedback and a better understanding of your interests.
So please vote my articles/albums, it is just one simple click !!

Edit 2008_october_01. And when you vote extremely negative (no problem with that) please post also a comment why. It can help me !

Dismantling of Fortis

Dismantling of Fortis has been suspended

Earlier this day, the CBFA suspended the trade of Fortis shares on the Brussels stock exchange in the awaiting of the verdict which has been announced this evening. In contrast to the verdict made by the court of law nearly a month ago, the court of appeal declared the sale/takeover in which parts of the Fortis Holding will be sold to BNP Paribas and the Dutch government, must be suspended.

The verdict is mainly due to Mischael Modrikamen, a lawyer, who represents 2,000 displeased shareholders. He, and his 2,000 shareholders, share the opinion that the decision made by the board of directors was illegal and must be prevented. In order to solve this problem, the judge has appointed 5 experts. It’s their job to examine the correctness of the sale/takeover and finally give an advice so the judge can make his final verdict.

But one way or the other ....

Angelic Popcorn tonight 2008_dec_06

This year's last 'first saturday of the month' POPCORN on Laser radio tonight and again a resting point to reflect the almost gone year... !
It's almost gone and so will be my Blog.
It was fun to write for about 2 1/2 years about music, mostly Popcorn music. I sincerely hope you liked it.

For saturday's Popcorn playlist go to LASER radio or the Angelic Popcorn Laser_log_Popcorn page and take a look at the playlist.
Saturday at exactly 20hrs local_CET time (14hrs_ECT time) Theo Dumoulin says : Go Popcorn go ! You can attend live if you JOIN us ! This way you get the internet stream directly in your Winamp or Mediaplayer.
You can also go to the LASER stream page and their stream.

To get everyone a littlebit 'in the mood' here's as usual my (alternative) playlist.
Please note, this is not a normal LP/CD, just some songs gathered from various
singles/albums and even old 18cm tapes. I 'follow' Theo's playlist but use other songs by the same artists. I posted in the past already a lot of todays possible cover Popcorn songs so I compiled some tasty lesser-popcorn here !

Popcorn 2008_12_06 Angelic Popcorn
03-Kenny Gamble - Standing in the Shadows
06-Python Lee Jackson - Um um um
09-Benny Turner & Amouretes - Morning Teardrops
12-Ronettes (Ronnie Spector) - Don't worry baby

16-Trends - Tell Me
17-Impressions - Girl you don't know me
18-Vi Velasco - That's not the answer
19-Jimmy 'Handy man' Jones - Good Timin'
20-Larry Weiss - I Don't Know Myself Anymore
21-Esther Phillips - When a woman loves a man
22-Angels - I Adore Him
23-Dave Howard - While We Danced The Tango
28-Chuck Foote - I've Got An Empty House Tonight
29-Junior Waters - Turn Away
30-Oscar McLollie & Jeanette Baker - Hey girl, hey boy
32-David Thorne - Don't Let It It Get away
37-Tommy Edwards - (New In) The Ways Of Love
40-Chuck-A-Lucks - Chuck-A-Luck
41-Spirit Of Jamaica - Leaving Rome_personal extended version

Tonight's broadcast honours all those lovely angels out there we guys love so much.. I must admit I have my preferences.. But do they have towards me.. ?
Will we meet them next year in the Laser chat, elsewhere or alive at a party ??? The future will tell us...
Reflection.... Theo and Brigitte many thanks for all your mellow popcorn fun we've got from you this year. The live chatroom was an essential part of it !!!

You can have 'live chat fun' too if you join us in the Laser Radio chatroom. Theo appreciates questions and will give even more info.
Chatroom info using mIRC (best option : mIRC passed 2008_february the 150 million download mark !!)
Server: IRCnet Channel: #laserradio.nl
The language is Dutch but everyone can answer in English. Give it a try if you like the above tunes !! But please be there in time, we have just a small room ... :-)

Finally, the music link to this 50 minutes compilation is in the comment.

Mel & Kim rockin' around the Christmas tree

Last year I did post some Christmas albums with, in my personal opinion, nice oldies. I didn't plan posting any this year.... As said last month I intend to close my Blog 2008_dec_31 and I still have some unfinished requests/promises to deal with.

But a simple Google search will provide you enough interesting sites. In the left collumn I placed last week a new (Captaincrawl) Search feature for Music Blogs. I promise ya it's worth to try it.
On the superb RotterdamRebels Blog you'll already find a lot of Christmas albums in our beloved oldies style.....
The meanwhile famous UK guy with the stiff upper lip Binky Spoons picked some expensive Popcorn Christmas 45's from his attic and is already recording them....
Reasons enough to assume you can do without me this year.......

Keld from Denmark requested in the (Chatango)shoutbox at the left the very funny Youtube video Mel (Smith) & Kim (Wilde) - Rockin around the Christmas tree.
