On this day 1939 : Neil Sedaka
Neil Sedaka, singer, songwriter. All the good oldies reach nice ages it seems to me. Neil turns 68 today.
On Wikipedia you can read his biography of which I quote just one (edited) small paragraph.
The best-known Billboard Hot 100 hits of his early career are "Oh! Carol" (#9, 1959), "Calendar Girl" (#4, 1960), "Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen" (#6, 1961) and "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do" (#1, 1962).
"Oh! Carol" references Sedaka's Brill Building compatriot and former girlfriend Carol Klein. Carole King (Carol Klein's 'artist' name) soon responded with her own answer song, "Oh, Neil," which directly references his song (and his full name).
A Scopitone video exists for "Calendar Girl".
More info about artists is available all over the internet like for instance of Neil on History-of-rock.
Here's this (mentioned) Scopitone Calendar Girl on Youtube. A cute video clip !
To celebrate his birthday I post, instead of a complete album, his Oh Carol and (of course) Carole Kings answer Oh Neil (especially note the end of this song !).
