Leader of the popcorn pack and now he's gone

Nothing lasts forever. At a certain moment all good things come to an end...

Laser radio, the internet station with the motto past, present and future, will not air live radio shows anymore in the (near ?) future. Besides other nice programs we will miss every first saturday of the month the great rock'n'roll show by Gudo Leuvens and the one and only Popcorn show by Theo Dumoulin .......

I announced for a long time my Blog quitting if there wasn't going to be a significant upgrade in comments by different people compared to the number of visitors and more important compared to the number of music downloads.
Next week some statistics........

Shangri Las - Leader of the pack _best of
01-Remember (Walkin' In The Sand)
02-What Is Love
03-Give Him A Great Big Kiss
04-Out In The Streets
05-Give Us Your Blessings
06-Heaven Only Knows
07-What's A Girl Supposed To Do
08-The Dum Dum Ditty
09-Right Now And Not Later
10-I Can Never Go Home Anymore
11-Long Live Our Love
12-Sophisticated Boom Boom
13-He Cried
14-Paradise
15-Love You More Than Yesterday
16-The Sweet Sounds Of Summer
17-Take The Time
18-Footsteps On The Roof
19-Leader Of The Pack
20-Past, Present And Future

Laser radio ('past, present and future') live is gone.... ??
We will have to wait what their future will bring.

Leader of the 'Popcorn' pack and now he's gone.... ??
Of course I am not the leader of the 'popcorn' pack. Far from that. I still consider myself a rookie. A lot of others know so much more about this (Belgium originated) musical genre. They also have a far bigger collection, far better in style quality and a more costly ... They could tell (...) so much.....

Visit these 2 great Belgium Popcorn site's with a lot of background info and the weekly party calender : Popcornoldies.com and Popcornoldies.be !
But I think I have succeeded in promoting Popcorn for over more than 2 years to a more worldwide audience looking at the number of downloads of those articles....

Last month I've had an offer to post some articles about Popcorn history. We'll see.

I've written about 2 (new) Blogs concerning Popcorn also : The world of Binky Spoons and Rotterdamrebels. Ehhhh, have you ever visited the Oldies-research-center ? And yesterday a new star in the Popcorn sky can be seen at BoUmBoUm.
Folks, all I can say comment, comment over there !!!!

This last article and download isn't Popcorn but I thought, because of those last 2 songs, it's a nice ending. Past, present and future.......

Comment section is still there...

Jean, I'll take your suggestion and comment while I'm 'sharing' rather than wait to hear the songs. This one is a gem, the Shangri-Las are probably the first ladies of punk rock. I usually like to obtain one or two songs from any album ( whatever happened to singles that had to make it on their own?) but I'm intrigued by this best of collection as I don't have nine of the songs.

You're right, the time went by quickly ;-)

Got another one for you...just what is the definition of poporn? I like the vintage of those sites but seems as if few are songs by recognizable artists. I like finding old artists and finding good 'obscure' songs by them. I have nothing against 'new' old artists but seems like these sites are filled with niche artists. So, what is popcorn? Maybe you can enlighten me. Thanks.

Thank you for the Shangri-Las collection and all your hard work in 2008.

Best wishes for the new year.

Love the graphics in your Shangri Las post - I've worn out a vinyl copy of the Sophisticated Boom Boom single. Will be nice to hear it in 1's and 0's. THANKS!

Hi, Jean.. sorry If I'm typing your name incorrectly but I think people give you comments like Anonymous 'cause in order to use a name it seems to me you need to have a "login" of a blog or of an google something... It really disturbs a bit 'cause for example I don't have a blog and don't know how I manage to give my comment a name without one .. Mainly of your visitors could also speak another language that are really different from english like spanish or portuguese... ppl here in brazil usually don't have a good english or does not feel comfortable using it... so sorry that it had taken you so down (the lack of comments)... You know maybe if you had leave your comments open you should receive more.. cause it's so much more simple... I admire your work as a music lover and wish you the best.
Lilly
ps.: just after looking some time I found that you don't have to put and url in order to have a name. x-x ... And I know some ppl like to see their comments just right after they write them.

I've been looking for a good collection of the Shangra-Las. Thanks for this one. It is very nice. Really appreciate all the work it takes to do this.

Beautiful Shangri-Las,
Mary Weiss is my sixties queen...

About the compilation, I wonder about "Footstep on a roof" that does not appear on the great compilation (that was supposed to be definitive...)
"Myrmidon of melodrama". I've heard this song on an other website and it seems to be a "gluing" work made from other songs of the Shangri-Las. Is someone has an explanation about this ?

Whatever, thanks again Jean.

Note : full screen window gives you the best view of the comments !

'Clickable' links are for you downloaders soooo convienent but the disadvantage is they don't seem to 'last' long.
The Blogger gets a lot of comments 'please re-up'...... Other, more appropriate/interesting comments, they sadly don't get... :(
So you will have to do a little work to get the link.
This seems, in my opinion, the best deal between 'protecting' my links and the least effort for you.

NEW LINK :
http://r#pidsh#re.com/files/358499763/SL-BotSL.rar
Of course you understand to replace in r#pidsh#re twice the # in an a otherwise you don't have a 'valid' link !!

Paste this valid link in your browser-url and hit RETURN. You can also copy/paste the link into your 'downloadmanager'.

Well, that wasn't difficult, was it ? Now your download takes some time.
Think about the efforts/time a good Blogger (I hope I am) spends to compile a nice offer, uploading it to a server, making a background article.

For this one I needed one hour....
Shouldn't you, while simply waiting for the download to finish, give some remarks why you picked this particular 'share' ?
Of course you should and you will if you are just a littlebit grateful.
Same goes for what you what you get from other Bloggers !!

Pass to extract the file : 100303

The file is a small 50MB, 'cause the songs are only in very low bitrate 128kbits.
Please donnut give a nasty comment about that : check 'My opinion about bitrates' on 2008_jan_25.

>>
The next depends, amongst other things, on your security options in your browser and by so the ability to copy/paste the link.
When you see this in Google or Yahoo cache or by my Blog's search function read first the RED instructions at the top left of my Blog !
Direct link (after that go to the plain comment of this 2008_december article !) : JeansMusicBlog
Also possible : just click the 'post a comment' section here and you are able to copy/paste !

....And while you are there you might as well give a comment yourself....
