Buddy Holly's posthumous last LP
This 12-track compilation album was rushed out within weeks of Buddy Holly's death. It combines what previously had been credited as Crickets group-titles and Buddy Holly solo recordings, containing all eight of Holly and the Crickets' Top 40 hits, 1957-1959: That'll Be The Day, Peggy Sue, Oh, Boy!, Maybe Baby, Rave On, Think It Over, Early In The Morning, and It Doesn't Matter Anymore, plus the chart entries Heartbeat and Raining In My Heart and the classics Everyday and It's So Easy.
There is more great Buddy Holly, of course, but this is an excellent single-LP compilation.
Check the comments to get these nice stero-versions.

Today 1936 : Buddy Holly was born
Anyone else can stay.... :-)
Bruce Eder of AllMusicGuide writes in his Buddy's biograpy
Born in Lubbock, TX, on September 7, 1936, Charles Hardin "Buddy" Holley (he later dropped the "e") was the youngest of four children. A natural musician from a musical family, he was proficient on guitar, banjo, and mandolin by age 15 and was working as part of a duo with his boyhood friend Bob Montgomery, with whom he had also started writing songs. By the mid-'50s, Buddy & Bob, as they billed themselves, were playing what they called "western and bop"; Holly, in particular, was listening to a lot of blues and R&B and finding it compatible with country music. He was among those young Southern men who heard and saw Elvis perform in the days when the latter was signed to Sam Phillips' Sun Records — indeed, Buddy & Bob played as an opening act for Elvis when he played the area around Lubbock in early 1955, and Holly saw the future direction of his life and career.
>>snip>>
With a new wife — who was pregnant — and no settlement coming in from Petty, Holly decided to earn some quick money by signing to play the Winter Dance Party package tour of the Midwest. It was on that tour that Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. "Big Bopper" Richardson were killed in a plane crash, on February 3, 1959.

Back in 1978 I became the proud owner of a 6LP box containing all of Buddy's recordings. How wrong that turned out to be nowadays.Lately I made a 3GB DVD for a friend with literally all Buddy's recorded works.
To remember Buddy Holly today I offer ya the first LP of my 6LP box.
This album contains some of Buddy's earliest recordings and therefore were not considered of a high enough quality for general release until much later when Norman Petty was running out of further items that were suitable for release. However when given a hearing they represent a growing talent that was to attain stardom just a couple or so years later.
To me the nice thing is you don't hear the obvious songs like Peggy Sue, Peggy Sue got married, That'll be the day, Heartbeat & It Doesn't Matter Anymore.
Instead there are (acetate !) recordings like Flower Of My Heart, Door To My Heart, Queen Of The Ballroom & Baby Let's Play House.
In the text file I put additional info to every song of this LP !
I have to admit that, although I have those 6LP's and ripped them in 1999, this particular rip is made last year by my 'australian friend aussi'. So credits go to him.
To be continued in the comments......

Some Buddy covers
In the Don McLean's post a few days ago I told ya about the great booklet of the 6LP box by Buddy Holly. To be true I'm already quite some time (read years ..) busy with a Buddy Holly project to put all his songs together.I must have at the moment 350-400 on various sources.
How sadly did Buddy die in a plane crash together with Ritchie Valens and JP Richardson (The big Bopper).
Here's one of the Newscasts about that crash. I have also a short videotape of the accident. Looked at it again last week and was wondering how things should have been if not ..... Memories.
Of course Buddy's been covered a lot. Look in the comments to listen to a few.
EDIT 2008_10_19
The mp3's of this event only got 5 downloaders as of today... So I deleted this broadcasts.
