Emmylou Harris in Carre Amsterdam Holland
Stupid me, I was too late to buy tickets, the concert was sold out.
At this very moment I will compensate myself starting watching two dvd's with concerts by Emmylou. An old 80's concert with some hits from that time and a bootleg dvd of the superb concert she did in Belgium Brussels 2006_may_26 with Mark Knopfler (only available for true fans...). In my mind I will be present tonight at my all time favorite female singer's concert.... Toi toi Emmy.
Did I offer you this superb concert already ? No time to check, let me know.Labels: emmylou harris

To know him is to love him
In my humble opinion the best version ever made is by those great female singers Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt.
On the left their Trio-album video clip and on the right a 1987 live version.
Watch in particular how good looking the ladies were, especially Emmylou Harris. Well, I'm a guy and no need to explain further....

Emmylou Harris Songbird box set is great
I got Emmylou's new box set and although every real fan already will have a lot of the songs it's again a real gem, a 'must have'.I did listen to it already two times. Wonderful music and a wonderful compilation made by Emmy herself.
One has to make priorities and so today no article and offer of a different artist.
Also this box is way to new to offer (buy it) so you just have to do with my today's remarks.
An 8 minute video clip in which Emmylou herself introduces this box.

Emmylou Harris, Iris Dement & Mary Black vid
From first 'Transatlantic Sessions' 1996. Aly Bain and Jay Ungar on fiddles, Russ Barenberg on mandolin. A song Emmylou first recorded for her 'Quarter Moon in a 10c Town' album.
Right : Emmylou Harris, Iris Dement, Mary Black - Wheels of Love _1996
Performance from the same 'Transatlantic Sessions' of the song Emmylou recorded for her 'Brand New Dance' album. Iris also provided backup vocals on that recording.
Our children like to watch MTV and so on. One gets really insane watching that. This is real. This is real music. To these ones I can look and listen to for hours.

Today 1973 Gram Parsons died
So today it's 34 years ago he died. I followed him intensivily in them years but just now figure out he wasn't even 28 years. Strange feeling.
Instead of me writing about Gram Parsons it's much better to let Emmylou Harris talk about him. Here's a Youtube video where Emmylou pitches for Gram in a 2000 UK TV poll for the "Influential Musician of the Millennium".

I hope you liked this, don't you ? So here's another one. You'll hear Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris in Grevous angel while you're watching a very nice 4 minute photo/video compilation !
Note that the girls on the sleeve of the Flying Burrito Brothers album Guilded palace of sin weren't friends but just some models. They all appear on this vid !

At the end his death is viewed : at the Joshua Tree Inn, due to alcohol and drugs... You can find elsewhere (but I hope you already knew, if so you're like me a real GP fan ....) all the further info about that tragical ('musical') event.
Emmylou Harris own composition 'Boulder to Birmingham' is a kinda lovesong to him. Listen please !
I wrote earlier about Gram. His sudden leaving from the International Submarine Band to the Byrds. His singing on Sweetheart on the rodeo. The banning to issue that Columbia recording with the voice of Gram by Lee Hazlewood ......
I give you enough 'key-words' for searching my Blog. Take your time to do so....
In one of my earlier posts I told ya about that LP Sweetheart of the rodeo.I offer you in the comment this LP.
But there's more.
I offer ya even three 'Sweetheart' albums !!
Great tracks like You Ain't Going Nowhere, The Christian Life (with Gram takes 7, 8 ,11), Life In Prison (with Gram take 1, 2, 3, 4, 11), You Don't Miss Your Water, One Hundred Years From Now (with Gram take 2, 12, 13, 14), Hickory Wind plus Nothing Was Delivered.
First the album itself with some bonustracks by Gram (the not issued ones).
Second just Gram Parons bonus tracks & some International Submarine Band tracks.
Third again the LP but with different bonus tracks by Gram Parsons.
So enough choice I think.
Maybe this is all confusing but when you go to the comments it will all be clear.
I added the 'take' numbers to the various songs so it's up to yourself.
I myself would know : I'd take all three !! But I'm not you ... :-)
By the way, watch the date november 05 (Gram's birthday !) when I will post a unique black/white clip by Gram and Emmy.....
Already prepared it. :-)

Emmylou Harris & James Burton - Live 1976
Through the years I collected a lot of music.
Entered a while ago he last part of my life and I discovered my musical choice wasn't bad at all at that time. Collected strange obscure music but also the ones who will last 'a life time'.
I don't mean Beatles, Rolling Stones, Kinks, Byrds, Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard, Johnny Hallyday and so on.
If you are a music lover you certainly will have some of them.
I mean music/artists who didn't reach the charts (very often) but are important to the music-scene and will last forever.
Examples Harry Nilsson and Randy Newman.
I will post in the future some of those albums without a personal note (as I did with Iron Butterfly). I hoped my BLog would be interactive but sadly that's not he case because of you, my readers. So just some albums.
Some of those all-time artists to me is Emmylou Harris. I wrote about her earlier. Search my Blog for that (see at the top).I thought I had (almost) everything of her. I am wrong. Surfing the internet last weeks (seems I don't do that enough) I found a 1976 live bootleg recording of her with James Burton which is new to me.
Although it has some crackles (which I like by the way !!) it's a very enjoyable recording.
I offer you this LP in the comments. Again, this is not my LP but someone elses. Sadly I don't know where I found it. Credits go to him/her !! If I knew I would give you a link to that internet page. Enjoy this (as my friends wil ...).
EDIT 2007_09_20
Found one of the giver's of this album : bearwil : credits to her/him.
One of the best, if not the best, voices of modern country music in her early years accompanied by one of the finest guitarists in his style. This album contains a live recording from 1976 on which she looks back to the Gram Parsons days (listen to the great version of The Flying Burrito Brother's Sin City) and brings a great compilation of the best songs from her first albums. This probably is a bootleg 'cause on the internet no information can be found on things as where the concert took place or who the band is - though it's quite likely that it's the Hot Band. The recording and sound quality are great, though sometimes a very light hiss may tell that this was copied straight from vinyl. A must for anyone who likes or loves Emmylou.

On this day 1947 : so Emmylou Harris turns 60 years YOUNG of age !
Emmylou Harris turns 60 years young today. When you have been with me on this Blog from the very beginning you'll know she's my all time fav female singer !

I could post (again) an entire album but I have something special for ya to celebrate her birthday.
Only few know (or seem to know ??) that in 1974 Emmylou Harris, under the name Hannah Brown, appeared on a single by the John Guernsey Group - All The King's Horses (released on the Sweet Breeze label).
So go quickly to the comment section to get this specialty !!!

Emmylou Harris again
One did strike me again : Learning the game. Such a great song.
Came home and played 2 LP's (of course digitalized already some years ago). One by Harry Nilsson and one by Emmylou Harris.
Emmylou's 1980 LP Roses in the Snow is so interesting.
On it is a wonderful song by Charles & Ira Louvin : You're Learning. Really thrills me.
I placed the necessary 'needle' in the comment ..... You don't need it when you want to listen to your own CD but for my vinyl it is !
If you like it as much as I do you can buy it at various places.
And please, please don't forget her new great Duet CD made with Mark Knopfler 'All the roadrunning' which is available everywhere !

Emmylou Harris, that fragile woman.

Emmylou Harris is one of my favorite singers. Interesting to know how she 'dealt' with the 'junkies around' Gram Parsons when she just started. She became a kind of mother for them.
Her duet 'Love hurts' with Gram Love is one of the best.
Played today one of her first LP's. Remember driving to the airport in 1976 in the middle of the night for our honeymoon to the Canarian Isle's and we heard on the radio her beautiful 'If I could only win your love'. So appropriate. Here's that LP.
Heard this week she's coming to Holland (with Mark Knoffler).
