Boudleaux and Felice Bryant continued
Diadorius Boudleaux Bryant was born Shellman, Georgia, February 13, 1920.Felice (Scaduto) Bryant was born Milwaukee, Wisconsin, August 7, 1925.
Boudleaux (pronounced Bood-Lo) Bryant died of cancer in Knoxville, Tennessee on June 25, 1987. Felice Bryant died on April 22, 2003 also of cancer. Both are resting on the third floor of the mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Nashville, Tennessee.
Few songwriters have compiled a catalog to rival that of Felice and Boudleaux Bryant, who scored in both country and rock music.
Their first hit was Country Boy, a hit for little Jimmy Dickens in 1949. In the early '50s they wrote for many of the top country acts, including Carl Smith and Eddy Arnold. By 1957, the Bryants were writing for country-influenced rockers the Everly Brothers. Together the husband and wife team wrote such classics as Bye Bye Love, Wake Up Little Susie, Problems, Poor Jenny, Take A Message to Mary, Brand New Heartache and Sleepless Nights. On his own, Boudleaux Bryant penned All I Have to Do Is Dream, Bird Dog, Devoted to You and Love Hurts.
The songs of the Bryants obviously made an impression on the Byrds. Dillard & Clark recorded Rocky Top, and Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris cut three of their songs: Sleepless Nights, Brand New Heartache and, most memorably, Love Hurts.
One of the Bryants’ best-known songs is Rocky Top which they wrote in only ten minutes in 1967. First popularized by the Osborne Brothers in 1968, Rocky Top is now known as one of the seven official Tennessee state songs and the unofficial fight song for the University of Tennessee’s athletic teams.
Among the Bryants' many industry honors are membership in the Country Music Hall of Fame (1991), the National Academy of Popular Music Songwriters Hall of Fame (1986) and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame (1972). Affiliated with performing rights organization BMI throughout their careers, Felice & Boudleaux Bryant earned a total of 59 BMI Pop, Country and R&B Awards.

Today 1920 Boudleaux Bryant was born
Have to gather songs written by him and his wife Felice from various artists and albums.
So this is just a preview posted tuesday evening. Just wonder at this very moment how many of you know about him and his music.....
Don't do a Google search now : just out of head !
>>>
On wednesday evening, just before midnight, I finished this article.
Well, check Wikipedia, Rockabilly Hall of Fame, songwritershalloffame (please don't forget to click the discography button !) and/or do a Google search.During their distinguished career, the Bryants had some 1,500 songs recorded by more than 400 artists, amounting to sales of over 250 million records........ So they were not the least in music.....
Boudleaux and Felice Bryant were among the first in Nashville to make a full-time career of songwriting. More importantly, they wrote some of the most enduring songs of the 1950s and 1960s, including many of the Everly Brothers’ best-known hits.
I decided to honour them in today's and tomorrow's posting ! I'm certain you will know most of these songs, but probably not in these particular versions... !!

Today 1983 Everly Brothers reunion concert
I've been a fan since their start and still play once a week an Everly album. So nice those harmony vocals.
What great songs they recorded for the Cadence label. After they moved to Warner Brothers (first one million dollar deal..) more superb songs.
Bird Dog, Long time gone, (Til') I Kissed You, All I have to do is dream, Wake up little Susie, Down In The Willow Garden, Let it be me, When Will I Be Loved.
Need I go on ? Cathy's clown, Devoted to you, So Sad (To Watch Good Love Go Bad), Love Is Strange, Walk Right Back, Crying in the rain, Ebony eyes. An endless list.
Although they wrote a lot themselves they were in luck when Cadence boss Archie Bleyer introduced them to the husband and wife team Boudleaux and Felice Bryant who wrote Bye bye love, their first hit. A long and profitable association had begun.
Although most people knew they weren't going along very well beginning 70's it still was a shock when they suddenly split up in july 1973.
In the comment I placed a biography by Elizabeth Thomas for musicianguide.com.
You can either read there or go to the Musician guide site.
What a great day it was when a decade later the announcement came of a forthcoming reunion concert. It took place in London's Royal Albert Hall on 22 & 23 september 1983. So today is a really nice moment to remember this historical event.
What's more, there came new recordings, new albums.
When you wanna relive that moment (it's 20hrs, the concert starts in a second...) :
quickly see the comments where

and you can listen to 100 minutes great harmony singing.
A last remark.
I believe this was the one and only occasion they did sing Ebony eyes live !!!!

Everly Brothers outtakes
AllMusicGuide gives some info about these kind of bootlegs. Go over there to Everly Brothers and look at their main albums.
You'll find examples like Give Me a Future / Like Strangers / Studio Outtakes / Too good to be true / Unissued live radio and tv recordings.
Hmmmm, if (if..) I want to post one which to choose ??
Suggestions ?? :-)
EDIT oct_02
Although I still see several 'searchers' for Everly 'outtakes' etc no suggestions untill today. So no such interesting post with unbelievable harmony songs will be made..

On this day 1937 : Don Everly 70 years young !
How is it possible that a guy whose vocal harmonies with his 'baby brother' (as he, as well as his father Ike, called him) 'got me like a lighting strike' celebrates today his 70th birthday !!Before you misinterprete me, I mean it seems like yesterday in the fifties I heard for the first time nice songs like Bye bye love, Wake up little Susie, All I Have to Do Is Dream, Bird Dog, ('Til) I Kissed You and so on and so on.
The Everly Brothers ! The Everly Brothers !
The Everly Brothers : Don was born February 1, 1937 and Phil on January 19, 1939.
What a party's in the family these weeks.
Anyway I wish Don a happy anniversary and all the best.

On Answers site you can find their biography plus other links or if that's not enough you can go to the Everly Brothers vocal group page which is dedicated to them.
I won't argue about their splitting in 1973 (was it ?). It isn't easy to do for so many years so much things together all the time.
So the Everly's : foreverly yours, foreverly mine !
Look for one of Don's solo albums in my archives 2006 april 4.
I was quite happy when they decided ten years later to give it another go.
Every fan of good vocal harmony must have been thrilled when they did their Reunion concert on 1983_09_23.
As far as I know/remember I give you here the ultimate complete concert of that reunion in London !
One only sees excerpts in the music store (see also AMG eg) but this is 100 minutes of great live harmonies.
So see the comments where

My first LP
The first album I did buy (1957 or so) was a cheap classical album with Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik and on the back Bach's Brandenburg's Concert #03. It was a gift for my mother.Later on I discovered why it was so cheap. Bach's Concert didn't have violins. So instead of very lively it sounded dark (hope you understand my English). Sometimes when I'm in a bad mood I still play that record.
Round 57-58 I was going to the outdoor swimming pool and heard there for the first time US r'n'roll/rockabilly/ballads etc. Quite different from what we heard from our parents. Immediately the Everly's got me. Such a nice harmony. Such a nice text's (mostly by Beaudlieux/Bryant I learned later on).
So the second album was a one only released here in Holland somewhere end 50's. A 10 inch The Everly Brothers - It's Everly Time.
Too costly to play nowadays so I enjoy the Cadence period on a cd.

Don & Phil Everly
As a member of The International Everly Brothers fanclub one of my first postings has to be one of them.
Everyone knows the famous Cadence classic songs. It's Everly Time is an 10-inch LP which was only available in Holland. I treasure it.
At Warner Brothers they still made some fine collector's (Cathy's clown eg).
Having split they also made a few solo LP's like Don's Brother Jukebox 1975.
I prefer Phil's smoothy voice. Here's a compilation cd : Everly, Phil - A portrait of Phil Everly 1993.
See comment for more info.
