Today 2004 Doris Troy died
Doris Troy (born 6 January 1937 and died 16 February 2004 from emphysema at her home in Las Vegas, Nevada) was an American R&B singer, known to her many fans as "Mama Soul."
She was born Doris Payne in The Bronx, the daughter of a Barbadian Pentecostal minister. Her parents disapproved of "subversive" forms of music like rhythm & blues, so she cut her teeth singing in her father's choir. She was working as an usherette at the Apollo where she was discovered by the 'Godfather of Soul', James Brown.
Doris Troy worked with Solomon Burke, The Drifters, Cissy Houston and Dionne Warwick before she co-wrote and recorded Just One Look which hit #10 in 1963. The song has been covered by The Hollies, Linda Ronstadt, Bryan Ferry and Harry Nilsson, among others.

A friend rediscovered his 'Baby I'm yours' vinyl by Barbara Lewis.

First Popcorn broadcasting 2001_10_06
We'll forget the short time Theo Dumoulin played his records way back in 1973 on the famous Radio Veronica but tonight we celebrate the fact he had hist first Popcorn radio broadcast on midwave exactly six years ago on Radio192. After the deficit of R192 he joined internetstation Laser radio so there's a party tonight.....

So take a look at the playlist. My personal 'rate' is, like last month when I joined in the studio, just a small 30%.... What's yours ??

No Popcorn this saturday !!
Some Popcornlovers got a mail there will be no Popcorn next saturday because of the 'holiday season' ! Holiday season ???
Most of the songs played on Laser radio Popcorn are from expensive vinyl.
On this video you can see how 'Theo' prepared himself this week (as he usually does). Playing records and reading some interesting notes to tell the listeners.
When you watch this video you can understand why there's no Popcorn this saturday. Hope 'he's' recovered saturday september 1 !!! :-) :-)
It's (only) 21 seconds fun !
Maybe there's a 'stand in'.....

Miss X Joyce Blair
During the last week I notice on Google almost every day a search to Miss X Joyce Blair.She/he comes also to my Blog where I posted that song february 3 (Popcorn ...).
Sadly I noticed my link is gone but I wonder why that, or more, person(s) doesn't give a comment so I can re-upload. Too much effort ??
I also wonder why there seems to be such a desperate need for this song.
At E-Bay you can/could buy the single at about Euro/dollar 3-9, so a quite fair price.
By the way Joyce Blair passed away 19 august 2006 at the age of 73 years.

Your obituary left out a fun bit of her long career when she had a connection, albeit somewhat remote, to the Profumo scandal, writes Ellis Rich.
In 1963, under the pseudonym "Miss X", she recorded a single on the Ember Records label entitled "Christine", a then slightly risqué song about Christine Keeler, who featured so much in the John Profumo/Stephen Ward case. The single entered the charts and, in August 1963, Joyce found herself on the iconic TV show Ready Steady Go, sharing the bill with Pat Boone, Billy Fury, Brian Poole and the Tremeloes, Burl Ives and Chris Barber.
I believe I have more info (...) to that TV show Ready Steady Go so who knows maybe in the future ....

During the first 2007 popcorn prg by Theo Dumoulin januari he played two unidentified songs. Your fellow countryman 'Witte' said he knew/had both of them.
The day after I wrote we'll 'hang him' if he should be wrong.
A few days later I got mail by 'mister Mellow Theo' himself proving 'Witte' was wrong on one song. So he has to be hanged.....!!!!!
